Saturday, October 6. 2007Pretty much back to normal
I think I have finally kicked the funk.
It was a long, long week. We launched the new Jaduka corporate site, this meant a few late nights this past week, which when combined with still being a little bit under the weather was just not fun. But with the corporate site launched and me being over the funk will let me to focus on getting John's Weasel site prototype finished. I plan to work on it all weekend (no Halo3 till it is done.) I would consider myself better, though not yet 100% back to normal.
Still in the 90% range, give or take 5%. My sinuses are still pretty mucked up, but I don't feel sick, just a little congested. "Better out than in." Is a saying that Gina has used often. Usually when she is sick. Anyway, the funk has spread its way through the office. I stayed home from work on Tuesday, the worst day for me. We went to the Alamo for the 3pm showing the Resident Evil: Extinction, it was good. The ending was just a little lame. It left it open for a fourth movie, but at the same time didn't provide enough closure for me. I tend to be too critical of endings though. So see it for yourself. I took a nap when we got back, but ended up sleeping all night. We went out to breakfast at The Original Pancake House. Gina had a craving for Corned Beef Hash and I remember seeing it on their menu. It was a good breakfast, she loved the corned beef hash. Did I mention they had pumpkin pancakes? She had the pumpkin pancakes as well, she loved anything with pumpkin. From what she said the pancakes didn't let her down. I had a simple yet, slightly boring breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and three buttermilk pancakes. It was quite tasty and I have to throw this out, their pancakes did not make me go narcoleptic. Usually pancakes from IHOP or Denny's make me go narcoleptic. Well, I am going to drink some more Vernors and try to relax without falling asleep. Laterz Tuesday, September 25. 2007Funk Sagas
So I have a cold.
I felt all sniffly yesterday afternoon, but it felt more like allergies. When I got home though it hit me like a Mac truck to use a cliche. I spent the day working from home. However, I am definitely not at 100% working capacity it is hard to concentrate, but there is some stuff that I have to get done. And unfortunately a few gotchas sprung up throughout the day so I have had to field those and have not been able to finish the one task that I really wanted to put to rest today. I figured I would take a quick minute to put up a blog post and inform those who haven't heard me on the phone yet that I am sick. I also want to thank everyone for their birthday wishes and the gifts that I have received. I will put up some pics of the cookie basket that I got from my In-Laws. Filled to the brim with wonderfully decadent cookies. I am also due to receive a copy of Halo3 via delivery from John and Gina bought me a DVD and a copy of the Civ4 expansion pack, Beyond the Sword. There is a caveat to Gina's game gift, I have to get the prototype of John's Weasel site up before I am allowed to play. Sorry that is taking so long John. Well back to the after hours grind. Well, I'm feeling way better than I have in the last week.
However, I am still not 100%. I'm guessing that will come tomorrow or Monday morning. I still have some nasal congestion and a bit of a sinus headache. Gina has been doing laundry all day. I on the other hand have been sleeping a good portion of the day away, but being sick and all that is probably a good thing. She still has a wicked cough. However, I think that is mostly related to the dry air and her being allergic to Texas. Yes, I said it the whole state of Texas. I have to get a couple of hours of work done tonight before I retire back to bed. To help me accomplish this I have put in one of my favorite DVDs, High Fidelity. I know what some of you might be asking. "How can he work and watch a DVD?" I can't. However, I am not actually watching the movie. I'm more or less just listening to it. Normally, I have my headphones on and listen to music while I work (at work). At home, I crank up the speakers and listen to MP3s off the computer. However, right now I feel more like listening to a movie that I already know. I have found that if I am listening to new music or trying to listen to a movie I don't know, I end up getting distracted. If I listen to music or movies that I have heard or watched enough to know it almost completely by heart, then I can ignore it. I don't like silence. Unless it is out in the country, you know like camping, that is different. But silence in the home, it is just unnerving. I picked High Fidelity because I wanted to watch it the other day and Gina wasn't feeling like it. For some reason I have had "Top 5 Lists" on my mind lately. Well, I best get back to working, so that I can get a good night's sleep tonight. Laterz Wednesday, February 14. 2007Happy Valentines Day !
Gina should be home any moment now.
I have a nice dinner in the oven and the V-Day gifts are wrapped. I still got the funk, my voice this morning on the phone was compared to Darth Vader. I sent in my working from home notice stating that "I apparently sound like Darth Vader would if he just finished smoking a carton of unfiltered Marlboro Reds." From what I have been told, smoking even a pack of Marlboro Reds will seriously harsh up your throat, and presumably your voice. Hopefully she likes her gifts. Oh yeah, John came by last night and did some more work on the fireplace. The mantle is now attached to the wall. So probably by the end of the month maybe the whole fireplace project will be done. He had some of the chili and liked it. Laterz Tuesday, February 13. 2007Funk Update
I am feeling a bit more energetic, of course I basically just woke up. We will see how energetic I feel around 2pm or so.
I coughed up something just lovely this morning, which I believe is a good thing. Better out than in. I have a lot to get done today. Back to the grind, Laterz. Monday, February 12. 2007I got the funk... again.
That is right, I said the funk (again).
Gina was feeling pretty decent yesterday evening and in comparison to the last three days, extremely good this morning. Not the case for me. I stayed home from work, instead putting my desk to some productive use that didn't involve taking over the galaxy. It hit me last night while I was watching Rome. I mean I had felt a general blah set over me for the last couple of days, but I didn't feel really sick until about 8:30 - 9:00 last night. All of a sudden my head felt stuffy and heavy and I had the sudden urge to sleep. Gina had been fairly sick since Thursday. She kept getting worse, so she went to the doctor. The diagnosis was that Gina had an ear infection and a sinus infection. They gave her a prescription for some antibiotics and set her on her way. I don't think I will need those. However, I think I am going to be turning in early tonight, probably around 9pm or so. I was fairly productive today. However, not as productive as I would have liked. Thus, I am going to spend the next couple of hours trying to rectify that. I am drinking my tea (and plenty of water). Hopefully I can kick the funk before tomorrow night rolls around. I am supposed to go to an Austin PHP Meetup at 7pm. Not to mention that I am also supposed to go to Dallas on Thursday. Ok, I best get back to it. Laterz. Saturday, November 25. 2006Not quite dead yet.
I think I finally got over the funk.
Now that I think about it, this might be the first time I got a cold from Gina. There was one time that I had a minor cold, then Gina caught it (much worse than when I had it) and then she gave it back to me. But this would be the first time it started with her. Usually I get a minor cold and she ends up having it worse than me. This time around she and I were sick at about the same time. The funk hit her hard on Sunday afternoon. I mean she was fine in the morning but within about 30 minutes, from about 2:30 - 3:00 she went downhill fast. This was about the same for me, on Wednesday. Except, I could feel that I was starting to get sick on Monday. I was feeling very run down. This prompted me to work from home on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday I had some drainage, on Wednesday I started to cough and in about 30 minutes I went from feeling just a little sick to feeling a bit awful. I worked from home mainly to keep from infecting my coworkers. A huge pet peeve of mine, is the concept that (and I quote a former co-worker) 'I'm a trooper, I'm here for the team.' Yeah, right, 'here for the team' should include the concept that you shouldn't infect the rest of the team out of some misguided thought of being a wussy for staying and getting over your cold. The good of the many is more important than the good of the one. In my company, just about every job can be done from a home office. So take advantage of that and clear it with your boss and work from home. It costs the company more to have 1 person get 5-10 people sick and possibly have those people need to stay home sick (vs work from home) rather than to have the 1 person stay home sick or work from home. Anyway. On Thursday I felt horrible. Luckily Gina was feeling much better and tended to me. Making a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch and her signature beef & barley soup. I have to admit I spent time on Thursday playing video games. But not because I was feeling better. I had such congestion in my head giving me a headache that I couldn't get to sleep, yet was tired. Too tired to do much more than click the mouse button. Friday I felt 100% better than on Thursday. But I was tired, very tired. So I slept much of the day away. Today, I feel about normal, a bit of drainage, but more or less normal. I think I am going to try to get a nap in real quick.
