In search of Dave
So Gina and I went to the farmer's market again this weekend, Jeremy and Nicole met us there as planned.
Gina and I got there a bit a head of schedule (prolly like 20 minutes), so we had actually gotten most of our shopping done before they showed up. It was fun. We bought some more bread. Hopefully, with a little luck Emma will not get a hold of it this time. I think I might have forgotten to mention up here on the blog that Emma managed to get a hold of the baguette that we bought last weekend. When we realized it was missing our first thought was "EMMA!!!" Gina found the remaining 1/3 of the baguette in the backyard. We bought some more tomatoes and more basil. Gina is planning to turn most of the fresh basil into pesto (and freeze) it. We also bought some snacks and drinks while we were there. I ate a tofu dog that had been rolled in dough with sauerkraut and mustard, it was pretty good. We also bought a beef "arm roast", which will be pot roast on one night and then it will magically turn into Gina's tasty beef and barely soup another night (most likely the following night). We also went over to IKEA today, I have been wanting to get a laptop table so that when I am sitting on the couch I can do stuff on the laptop without it being on my lap (like it is right now). This laptop table is apparently called DAVE. Well the Round-Rock IKEA is out of DAVE tables, they were also out of the computer desk that I thought would be perfect for Gina's new room. I guess I probably haven't mentioned that either. Did I forget to mention that Gina bought a Bass recently? Not a Bass Guitar but a string bass, some times referred to as a "double bass". And with that, she has cleaned out our guest room, as to house her bass and her music stuff. Given the extra room that is now in there (seeing as the queen bed has been removed) I think this one corner desk from IKEA would be perfect in there. Gina has been needing a place of her own in the house, so I am very excited to help her get the room into order to help her feel a bit more at relaxed when she is at home. The desk I have in mind is the TOVIK. Jeremy and I will be heading over to Fast Eddie's soon to try and get a spot to play Guitar Hero III before it comes out tomorrow. I have no idea how busy this will be, but I probably actually need to call him in a few minutes and see about us heading over there, cuz I think it is probably going to be swamped. I have enjoyed playing Guitar Hero at the stores and at the Webmaster Jam Session. Oh yeah, so I had the idea and it is just an idea right now as I haven't had the chance to really look into the details. But here is the idea, Gina makes really, really good dog treats. I mean our dogs love them and from what I heard Kelly's dogs loved them too. So we bought some dog treats down at the farmer's market. They are honestly not very impressive. I think that Gina should make treats and we can sell them down there. I would have fun being down there on Saturday mornings and being part of the local commerce scene. We have tossed around the idea quite a bit today and Gina seems interested, but skeptical that the dog treats are good enough to sell. I am believe the dog treats are excellent and worthy of selling. Given the number of dogs we saw there last weekend and this weekend, I feel it is safe to say that it is a good venue for us to try and break into the market. Gina has on occasion also made dog beds, so I think that would be another thing that can be sold. The other thing would be the "belly bands" that Gina has made for Basil. The ones that Gina made do not seem to bug Basil, but the one that she bought at PetSmart did. I mean the one from PetSmart used some elastic in it that looked like it was painful to wear for long periods of time, while the bands that Gina makes do not. Another thought would be to also allow John to sell some of his handcrafted pet furniture down there as well. In my opinion the folks buying from that particular market are more likely to be interested in good dog treats and dog beds and hand crafted pet furniture than any other farmer's market I have been to. Then again I could be completely wrong. Like I said, haven't done much investigation. But if the cost of the booth isn't too much, I would be willing to pay for at least a couple of weekends of experimentation. More to come on the idea of the farmer's market booth. Time to give Jeremy a call. Laterz Friday, August 3. 2007Jump Emma Jump!
So this morning, Emma jumped down off the bed (I think she went halfway down the little doggy stairs we have in the bedroom, then jumped).
However, since I was going to be getting up soon anyway I didn't feel like getting up to pick her up and put her on the bed. Did I forget to mention we was doing this little Emma style bark whine thing? And then out of no where Emma appeared on the bed. SHE JUMPED ON TO THE BED!!! This amazed me, even though she has been pretty much back to normal since her FCE episode, this was the first time I saw her jump up onto the bed since. I mean the bed it pretty tall and while Emma isn't tiny like Curly, she hasn't ever been as vertically capable as our dog Buddy. Still amazed by the feat of doggy acrobatics I asked Gina she knew that Emma could jump up on the bed. And as most things related to the dogs, I am the last to know. She told me that Emma has been doing that for a while. Oh well, I was very excited and proud that my little schnauzer mix is probably at about 95% of her normal self after her FCE episode. The last 5% relates to the fact that she doesn't have control over her back left leg as much as she used to and that she still has her left front paw turned over more than we would like. Lunch is about over back to the grind. Laterz Tuesday, May 22. 2007Emma on YouTube
YouTube's bandwidth was working well today, so I was able to upload videos at lunch.

I got a notice that someone posted a comment on my YouTube video that I had uploaded of Emma.
It appears that SPRINGBOROMOM has a schnauzer that is named Emma. Here is one video from their collection. Which, reminds me I need to upload some of the videos I took of Emma in the backyard the other day. Oddly enough, SPRINGBOROMOM has some videos aptly named "Emma in backyard". Back to the grind. Laterz Friday, May 18. 2007Emma Update: Had to put her on a leashWednesday, May 16. 2007Emma Update: She jumped on the couch
When Jeremy and I got home, Emma greeted me from the couch.
I asked Gina if she had Emma sitting on the couch, as normally Emma loves the couch and can more often than not be caught sort of laying over part of the couch, either the back or one of the arm rests. Gina informed me that Emma must have jumped up onto the couch as Emma had been in her kennel before this. I put Emma on the floor in the living room (on the rug) and she began to walk around, pretty much like normal. She tried jumping up on to Jeremy's leg but lost her balance a little. A definite improvement. Laterz Monday, May 14. 2007Point of clarification on FCE
A couple of days back I stated that it was not Emma's spine, I am incorrect on that.
FCE is apparently an embolism that happens in the spine, or one could say a 'stroke of the spine'. So my statement that it was not a tumor or something bad that happened with her discs or what not in her spine was correct. However, it was actually something with her spine. Laterz Monday, May 14. 2007Emma Update: Standing on her own
For the most part.
Gina's physical therapy work is definitely helping Emma out tremendously. She is standing more and more on her own. Which is good, since Emma can run pretty much like she used to, but the standing in between runnings was a problem. She is still wobbly, but definitely is getting the hang of standing up on her own and making her legs do what they are supposed to more and more. She had hydrotherapy again today, hopefully Gina is able to pick her up and get Emma home before Jeremy and I take off for Dallas. Laterz. Sunday, May 13. 2007Emma Update: Road to Recovery
Emma is doing better and better everyday.
When she wants to run, she runs. Mind you she is in this harness thing on that I am holding on to when she decides to start booking across the backyard. She uses all her legs. However, when she stops she gets a little wobbly. So she is working on it. Jeremy is bitching that he is hungry, I gotta go take him to burger king for jack in the box or something. Laterz Friday, May 11. 2007Emma Update - First Hydrotherapy treatment
I am a horrible father. I missed our little girl's first hydrotherapy appointment.
I don't have an excuse, I put work before her. I should have planned around it, I didn't make the time. I suck. I will plan accordingly for the next one. Gina said that she Emma did the therapy for about two minutes. Emma slept in the bed last night with us, just like she used to. She was a little grumpy with the other dogs, Gina said that she probably felt threatened because she can't move so well. However, right before we were going to bed Emma started cleaning Buddy's eyes, as if it was just last week. I massaged Emma's leg muscles, which I can feel are very tense, she seemed to enjoy it as she started to doze off and snore. I know that she can feel me touching her feet, because I tried to see how her toe nails were and she woke up. I haven't heard her bark yet. I will have to ask Gina. I am very proud of Emma she woke me up early this morning because she needed to go outside and take care of business. Back to the grind. Laterz |
