There was a contact lens on the end of my finger though mind you.
So, I am getting new lenses in my glasses. However, I lost my spare pair of glasses a while back. So this means that I would be left without the ability to see anything. Obviously, not cool.
The Dr. Donna Shepard over at
Austin Vision Associates was kind enough to offer to put a pair of contact lenses into my eyes for me. Well, she was not the one who helped me out today, her husband was. (Pretty sure that he is her husband.) He made me put in the contacts myself.
Putting them in was definitely a bit of a pain. I tried probably a total of about 10 times on the right eye and a good five or six on the left before getting the lenses in.
Of course, then he wanted me to practice taking the lenses out. He made some comment about not wanting me to have to go to the emergency room at 10pm at night. I should have asked him why, I would have to go to the emergency room. I mean, I am pretty sure Gina could help me get the lenses out of my eyes.
Anyway, after watching me struggle with putting them in, and the many (at least 4 or 5 per eye) attempts to remove them, he was kind enough to pop them into my eye. He made it seem, so so easy. I'm talking about like 15 seconds or less per eye. He had to do the left eye twice, but the right eye he nailed it the first time. I mean sure, he is a trained physician who knows the ways of the eye, but I would wager the external perspective helps too, when trying to land the lens on the tiny globe that is my eye.
Regardless, they are in and I can see. Of course the funky bit is that the contact lenses are for my new prescription so not only can I see without having glasses sitting on my face. I can see better than I could with my old glasses.
Mind you, I think he pulled a generic pair of lenses, because they are not 100% correct. There is a slight variance in the prescription between my left eye and my right. I am pretty sure it is my right eye that is stronger than my left.
While I am seeing clearer than with my glasses, the far end range of my vision is still too blurry to properly read small print. The feeling of having something in your eye, is funky. I hope that my glasses are back tomorrow, but in all likelihood they won't be available until Wednesday. So that means that I will be stuck wearing these until then, meaning that I will be taking them out tonight and putting them back in the morning. Oh goody, that should be a fun 30 minutes in the morning (15 minutes an eye).
I need to pickup a pair of cheap sunglasses, that way I won't be blind while I wear these contacts.
The next few days will let me know whether I am destined to wear contacts on a regular basis or not.
At this exact moment, it isn't looking too pretty.
Time to wolf down my lunch and watch a little Daily Show.
