Carcassonne!
First of all, I have no idea how to pronounce Carcassonne . I am sure that I will learn.
I read about it briefly on Penny Arcade the yesterday. Tycho mentioned that it was like Catan, which I have been playing on my Xbox-360 and really do enjoy. There are a few notable draw backs to Catan, like the fact that you cannot play a local multi-player game. Only a multi-player game with others folks over the Live network. Serious downside there Catan guys. Maybe they will patch Catan with a local multi-player option. I bring up the local multi-player because it is fun to play games together with folks that are over. Like when Jeremy is visiting or just anytime your hanging out with the wife. Gina and I played a few games last night. She likes the game, I don't think she likes playing with me. I tend to take to strategy games like a fish to water. Of course, we did have to stop the first game and go back and go through the tutorial as the rules are a little complex. Now, Carcassonne in the X-box Live Arcade is a port, if you can call it a port, of a table top game to the X-box Live Arcade. I can see how the game can be fun, as it is a bit of a city/empire building type game. However, one thing is that without the game be computerized the manual scoring of everything on a table top version must be a pain. Not to mention that I'm sure you don't get the fun city building animations. I am going to go and play some more Carcassonne now. Hopefully, Jeremy has bought it too so that we can play a couple of games today. Laterz Friday, June 29. 2007Not everyone, but a lot of people in Austin are from Michigan
I park in about the same spot in the garage almost everyday. And a lot of the time, I park next to this blue Honda sedan (I think it is a Honda) that has the license plate "GLOBBY". I have often wondered what "GLOBBY" stood for.
Today, I got my answer. "'Glow Baby', except Texas only allows six letters." While I was getting my stuff out of the car, the owner of the blue sedan was getting her stuff out of her trunk. I seized the opportunity to quench the idle curiosity that has been smoldering in the back of my mind for about the last year or so that we have been in this office building. Mind you I didn't ask what "Glow Baby" stood for. That I guess will smolder in the back of my mind until I run into the owner of the blue sedan again. Which, could be forever, but I'm getting ahead of the story a little bit. After answering my question about her license plate, the lady asked me "So are you're a Spartan fan, did you go to MSU?" I told her that I attended MSU for a little bit then came down here to Texas. She informed me that she grew up in Ann Arbor, I told her that I grew up in Lansing. She told me that I didn't have to worry about a University of Michigan rivalry, that she went to Notre Dame. To which, I of course brought out the fact that MSU had trounced Notre Dame for quite a while. We did have a pretty good winning streak there for a bit. She has been in Texas for 8 years, oddly enough she didn't think she was going to be in the Lone Star state for this long. I remember that I originally thought I was only going to be down here for 6-12 months. On the way into the building, we briefly chatted about the fact that Michigan has no real software industry and that neither of us have or want anything to do with the car industry. The reason that I may never know what "Glow Baby" means, apparently whatever firm she works for (I am guessing Convio, as she got off on the 2nd floor), is moving to the Dominion office space, which has just opened up a bunch of offices. She said that they have been growing so fast that they have just filled up the office space here in the building. It was an interesting chance meeting that satisfied some idle curiosity and at the same tame further reinforced that Michigan's greatest export is People. Back to the grind. Laterz Tuesday, June 26. 2007I think I need to get Tivo
I am a gadget freak and a self proclaimed Technosnob.
However, I have yet to get Tivo. I had a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) at one point when we had cable. But now with the Dish it really isn't working out. Dish offers a DVR, but that isn't quite the same as a Tivo. I guess I am putting Tivo down on the X-mas list. I missed the last episode, the season finale of Stargate SG-1. I haven't seen anything on Sci-Fi about them showing it again any time soon. So, I turned to iTunes to watch it sooner, rather than later. I spent $1.99 to get the last episode of the season. It took a while to download, but the quality seems pretty good. I am not sure I am keen on paying $1.99 per episode, but it is pretty cool. Laterz Tuesday, June 26. 2007Smells like Imp in here
I was deleting some spam email real quick and found one from CodeMasters for their Overlord game.
Ctrl+Alt+Del, one of the web comics I read did a bit on it recently, I can say that I haven't been paying attention much lately to the video game world. However, from looking over the game's screenshots it seems like it is a FPS version of Dungeon Keeper. In Dungeon Keeper you got the chance to play the evil force who built up the dungeon and had all the treasure. You had recruit and train monsters to protect the dungeon you designed from would be adventurers and enemy dungeon keepers. I will admit that aside from the screenshots I don't know much about Overlord, but it looks like you play the Overlord and you have minions travel with you as your ransack the neighboring lands. Back to the grind. Laterz Tuesday, June 26. 2007Food Shui - Best Asian food I have had in a long time
I found Food Shui while I was looking for good vegan restaurants, during my brief time as a dietary vegan.
I dragged Gina there, she is always skeptical of new places. But she likes it. Apparently, she likes it so much that she eats there pretty much anytime that I am out of town. I definitely like their lunch rice bowls. I haven't tried much of their other stuff, I need to. But I am more than willing to say that Food Shui is one of the best Asian food places I have eaten at in a long time. Back to eating my Garlic Beef Bowl. Laterz Tuesday, June 26. 200796% humidity
That is what our outdoor weather station we have setup on the covered sun porch has read for the last couple of days.
Inside the humidity has fluctuated between 41% to 52%. Needless to say, the humidity sucks. We have had rain every day for the last several days. This morning it sprinkled on my way into work and then poured for about an hour, give or take 10 minutes. Now it looks like we are getting some sun shining through the clouds, but off in the distance I can see that it is raining. Obviously, Texas needs rain. People who have never been here, know that Texas is a state that needs rain. Right at this moment, I don't think Austin needs anymore rain. I know that my coworkers in Dallas feel the same way. However, I think I will gladly take rainy days over 100+ degree days. Back to the grind. Laterz Tuesday, June 26. 2007Civilization building comes to an end
I love the game Civilization. I got hooked on it back in High School with the original and have played every version since.
However, because of how busy the summer is going to be I need to remove Civ4 from my PC. I find myself playing it whenever I am on my home pc. It is the last remaining game on my PC. After I get John's site built I am thinking that I will put Industry Giant or Capitalism 2 back on my home pc. However, that is not to say that I am giving up gaming I do have that shiny Xbox 360 that doesn't get used as much. I will say this about console games they are easy to pick up and put down. While, my PC gaming interests have usually been strategy games, which can turn a quick few turns into a 3 hour game (or longer). I finished up my last game of Civ4 tonight. I won out against the English and the Spanish. Time for Bed. Laterz Sunday, June 24. 2007Working like it is 1554
I found this 1554 beer (or technically it might be an ale) while Gina and I were out at HEB today.
I have been working on a Website for John. www.stinkweasels.com He has a splash page up there right now. I am working on the main layout right now, while drinking a 1554. I had a Guinness earlier and one of the reasons that I picked up the 1554 is that it is a dark beer (ale), as is the Guinness that I had earlier. I have to say that I am liking this 1554. I tend to like most dark beers (or ales) go figure. Hopefully I can get the design done today, cuz while I am loving the challenge of doing a total CSS style design, I would like to move on to the easy bit of building the rest of the site. It sounds a little bit like a wind tunnel in here now
The duct work replacement job is about 95% done now.
I had to run out to Lowe's real quick to get some registers that we hadn't gotten around to replacing. For some reason I thought they were going to do a pressure test or something. Nope, they just wanted to close the registers as to avoid stuff coming through the vents while they were redoing everything in the attic. At one point the garage was full of the old duct work, I mean pretty full of it. I believe they just finished setting up the last duct as it now sounds a little bit like I am in a wind tunnel here in my home office. I am going to wait for the OK from them to open back up the register, but I am hoping that all the sudden increase in airflow means that my thoughts on the general air pressure coming from the vents is correct. More to come. Laterz Wednesday, June 20. 2007I think I might have a cold
I have coughed a couple of time in the last two days, in a way that isn't just a 'clearing my throat' kind of way.
I think, I am going to try to turn in early tonight. The ARS guys are coming over to do the duct work tomorrow. I will be working from home while they do that. Hopefully, it keeps raining tomorrow too, and thus keep the house cool while the AC is off. It is raining today, which could also be why I feel kind of blah. So, the new AC is doing its job the house is nice and cool. It is quieter and I believe that the AC has been on less than before. Once the new duct work is in, then that will hopefully up the airflow (ie pressure coming out of the vents). I was a little late getting to work, so I sorry, can't do a longer post. Back to the grind. Laterz |
