Eddie Gomez is a new member of the Jaduka team.
He got hired about two weeks ago. His site is a little dark and brooding, in my opinion. But has some interesting features. www.eddiegomez.net I just wanted to link over to it and give some folks a chance to take a look at a new site. I had him prepare a list of 8 sites he liked and 1 that he didn't. I will be reviewing the list this weekend. I will do some excerpts from the list that I feel are worth sharing. For a month.
I am not sure exactly when it hit me, but I have decided that I will go vegetarian for one month this year. The month will be the month of May. In discussing it with Jeremy, May seemed like a good month and he also has agreed to join in. It gives us the month of April to prepare, find recipes and what not. Now, I am a die hard Omnivore. I love vegetables, particularly fresh mixed greens salads with fruit slices. I love chicken, I love pork, and last night I had pretty darn good rib eye steak. However, I like to make fun of vegetarians. Let me restate that, I like to make fun of my sister who is a vegetarian. I also like to make fun of Hippies, who more often than not are vegetarians. And when I was growing up the idea that you should walk a mile in a mans shoes before poking fun or passing judgment. I am going to eat no meat, fish or dairy for a month. I am sure that it will be a healthy experience for me, I might even drop a few pounds. But ultimately, the idea for me is to be able to better understand from a first hand experience, then when I poke fun at my sister I can do so with the full knowledge of what it is she goes through all the time. Course, who knows, maybe I won't make fun of my Hippie sister so much after going vegan for a month. I told my sister about this. I explained to her that I was not going to eat dairy or fish either. To which her reply was "Wow, that's hardcore vegan." She has recently added fish into her diet. I am not sure that this will be overly hard for me to do. Gina believe I will find it very hard, as she was once went completely veggie. Her thought about it is that I will have a hard time finding food that doesn't have some sort of animal byproduct. My first thought about the coming month of May, is that my diet will consist of pasta, vegetables, and nuts. Sounds easy, right? I mean I love pasta, put a little olive oil on it and add in some diced or grilled tomatoes and there you go. In terms of vegetables, I love just about everything. The only veggies I hate are squash, zucchini, and eggplant. Grilled, steamed or just fresh I can eat veggies anytime. Now, protein will be a concern. Since most vegetables are full of carbs and vitamins, where will I get my fat and protein. I haven't done any extensive research, but I know that peanut butter is a good source of protein. I also love Edamame (soy beans) they are a good source of protein. I have had them mixed in with pasta before, but just eating them steamed in the husk is pretty good too (no you don't eat the husk). So I believe that the month of May will be a good thing and will likely lead to healthier eating habits for me on a long term basis. However, I can guarantee you that I will be chowing down on some beef, pork and chicken come July. Laterz. PS. Jeremy has registered www.veganforamonth.com, nothing up there yet. But I believe we will be chronicling the month of May. Saturday, March 31. 2007"Pins & needles, Pins & needles" 2.0
I can quit playing video games!
Ok, not all video games, just my free copy of City of Villains that I got at SXSW. I played a few different characters. The first one I made was one called, Dark Monkey. For some reason rather than try out a completely different class of character, I went for something that was a little closer to my old City of Heroes character, Ruthless Monkey. I choose the Brute class, these guys are the sluggers, the behemoths that are probably not too smart but can give and take a beating. I got that character up to lvl 14, which took about a week of playing (at night for a few hours and a couple of days on the weekend). Then I decided to play a different class. So I tried out the Stalker class. This class of character is exactly like the Scrapper class in City of Heroes, the class of Ruthless Monkey. I made a Katana / Regen Stalker. Exactly like Ruthless Monkey, with the exception of the fact that there is a "Hiding" function, so that you can do assassin's strikes. I only played that character for about 4 levels, I think I named him Dresdin (i was watching the Dresdin Files at the time). During my time playing Dark Monkey, I teamed up a few times with players that were playing a class that had henchman. This looked interesting. The idea that you could have minions at your beck and call, to fight for you and what not. Who doesn't love the idea of having minions or lackeys. I played along side some characters that had gang members, robots, and army soldiers. However, when creating my Mastermind character, I opted for Zombies. Zombies are more often than not my favorite characters in video games and comics. However, I needed a theme. As I wasn't watching any TV shows with zombies I had to be a little bit more creative. So I came up with BunnyMancer. I figured the idea of a cocktail waitress necromancer who has turned zombies into the wait staff seemed creative. Oh yeah, did I mention you can name the zombies (minions). The Mastermind class is pretty cool. I mean the game as a whole is still pretty much the same, create a character, defeat various enemies, level up, defeat more enemies, level up. So I am not going to be playing beyond pretty much this weekend. I had one goal for BunnyMancer, to try out a travel power that I had not used in City of Heroes, Flight. I had used SuperSpeed (like the flash) and SuperLeaping (like the hulk), but never flight. So last night I made it to level 14 (at which travel powers become available), then I proceeded to explore the area some more, now that I could fly high above the enemy (mind you there are flying enemies too). I ended up taking a boat to another island in the game, an island that they should post warnings about. You need to be level 40 to survive there. I was killed instantly. Here are some screenshots from the game. Laterz Friday, March 23. 2007Home again
VON was a great show.
San Jose is a great city. I love light rail, it is a wonderful form of mass transit. I will post more about my trip later this weekend. Laterz Monday, March 19. 2007Made it to San Jose
The flight from Austin to Phoenix wasn't too bad, could have been a little better. Had some turbulence.
The flight from Phoenix to San Jose was actually quite nice, I managed to get a good hour and half worth of sleep. I took the hotel shuttle from the airport. I need to think about getting some lunch, hopefully some of the rest of the Jaduka crew show up in a little bit. I think I am going to head out from the room and over to the Cafe they have in the main building. Yeah, there are different buildings, they have eight buildings I think. Some of which are connected, some of which are not. Like 6-7-8 are connected and 1-2-3-4-5 are connected. Laterz Thursday, March 15. 2007

Devil is in the details
Oops, I should have checked the fine print on the 100 year domain purchase.
I ended my last post, wondering if the domain registration is transferable. The answer is NO! It is clearly right there in the details on the screen once you select the 100 years option. You would have to be a complete douche bag to recommend that someone purchase the 100 year domain registration. Laterz Thursday, March 15. 2007
Unbelievable what some people get ... Posted by Ben D. Benner

Jeremy called and told me that he was forced to register some domain names for someone at work using a service other GoDaddy.
Apparently, the person has been convinced that GoDaddy isn't good and that this other domain registrar is better. Ok, fine. Maybe they are, but they are about 4 times as expensive per year. Between Jeremy and I we own about 30-35 domains. I had previously been using DirectNic before GoDaddy. DirectNic was $15 bucks a year when I used them, this means that annually all of our domains would cost between $450 & $525. GoDaddy is about $8.99 a year (less when using diggnation promo code), this means $270 - $315. This other registrar would cost between $1,050 and $1,225. Now, that registrar might offer some sort bulk discount. I didn't see that advertised anywhere. As you can see in the picture below, they offer the option of buying a domain for 100 years! And the price is still, still higher than GoDaddy. Unbelievable, so to register all the domains for 100 years that means that this registrar is still $3,000 more expensive than GoDaddy. Don't believe the hype, do your research. I say this, because after spending $70 on two domains for this guy, Jeremy got this response "I thought it was only going to be like $15." To which, Jeremy replied "Yeah, it SHOULD only be like $15." But apparently the fact that they offer 24x7 phone support was one of the big selling points. Ummm, I don't think I have ever had to engage in support conversation with my registrar. I had to read the FAQs once, course I am the kind of person that would try to read the FAQ to resolve my problem, before subjecting myself to a phone call with a tech support rep. I wonder if the terms and conditions of the registrar include a clearly defined transfer of ownership rights, because an individual would have to be an infant to register for 100 years and be around for the renewal. Back to the grind. Laterz Thursday, March 15. 2007Gina is home
I was a little bit late in picking Gina up from the airport.
Emma had decided to run and hide under the deck, instead of coming inside when called. I picked her up and her 70 lb suitcase and we headed back to the house. We stopped at this little Mexican place in Cedar Park, Taqueria La Tapatia. We have been eating there more and more, it has great food and the prices are pretty decent. We had lunch and then headed back to the house. The dogs were ultra excited to see her. She had a scare there in Hong Kong (pretty sure it was Hong Kong) where they didn't know where their luggage was. However, as a I said the 70 lb suitcase made it here to Austin. From what she said the bags got shipped out on an earlier flight and were waiting down in the "Missing Bags" dept. They had neglected to tell Gina and Ron that their bags were being sent on ahead of them. Back to the grind. Laterz Thursday, March 15. 2007Screenburned!
I popped the XBOX SpiderMan2 game into my 360 and was then promptly informed "This game is not compatible."
NOOOOOO!!!!! I am going to offer it up to folks in the office, maybe one of them can use it. Oh well, City of Villains is OK, but I will probably not play it much longer. Games like City of Villains is something you need to play with a group of friends. It is good to see that NCSoft has been keeping the content updated. My only real issue with City of Heroes was that it just got boring, login and defeat X number of a particular enemy. Laterz Wednesday, March 14. 20079 hours or so to go
The wife is finishing up her world tour.
I am supposed to pick her up at Austin Bergstrom at 9 am. I was pretty tired last night and turned in early. Apparently Gina called me at about 1:40 in the morning. I woke up around 9 am this morning, thinking that I had talked to Gina. But I couldn't quite remember what we talked about. I sort of remember being worried that I didn't know when she was coming into town and that maybe my original thought that she was coming into town late (around 9 pm) was wrong. Luckily she called again at 10 am this morning. Given the deja vu feeling, I asked her "Did you call me last night?" She informed me that I was coherent and asked questions, one in particular "What time do you get in?" I had to ask her that one again. I checked my phone and saw that Gina called me at 1:40 in the morning. I am so excited, I miss her so much. Well I need to get to bed. |
