Jeremy called and told me that he was forced to register some domain names for someone at work using a service other
GoDaddy.
Apparently, the person has been convinced that GoDaddy isn't good and that this other domain registrar is better.
Ok, fine. Maybe they are, but they are about 4 times as expensive per year.
Between Jeremy and I we own about 30-35 domains.
I had previously been using
DirectNic before GoDaddy.
DirectNic was $15 bucks a year when I used them, this means that annually all of our domains would cost between $450 & $525.
GoDaddy is about $8.99 a year (less when using diggnation promo code), this means $270 - $315.
This other registrar would cost between $1,050 and $1,225.
Now, that registrar might offer some sort bulk discount. I didn't see that advertised anywhere.
As you can see in the picture below, they offer the option of buying a domain for 100 years! And the price is still, still higher than GoDaddy.
Unbelievable, so to register all the domains for 100 years that means that this registrar is still $3,000 more expensive than GoDaddy.
Don't believe the hype, do your research.
I say this, because after spending $70 on two domains for this guy, Jeremy got this response "I thought it was only going to be like $15."
To which, Jeremy replied "Yeah, it SHOULD only be like $15."
But apparently the fact that they offer 24x7 phone support was one of the big selling points.
Ummm, I don't think I have ever had to engage in support conversation with my registrar. I had to read the FAQs once, course I am the kind of person that would try to read the FAQ to resolve my problem, before subjecting myself to a phone call with a tech support rep.
I wonder if the terms and conditions of the registrar include a clearly defined transfer of ownership rights, because an individual would have to be an infant to register for 100 years and be around for the renewal.
Back to the grind.

Oops, I should have checked the fine print on the 100 year domain purchase. I ended my last post, wondering if the domain registration is transferable. The answer is NO! It is clearly right there in the details on the screen once you select t
